Expatriate Bangladeshis and Picnics: Why We Don’t Think of Anything Else

Recently, I read an article in Prothom Alo’s Dur Parbas, called ‘Thailand Diary’. The article was about the Asian Institute of Technology, where I also studied. After reading the article, I also wanted to write an article for Prothom Alo.

I left Bangladesh in 2014 for my PhD research. My destination was Griffith University, Australia. Due to my research and work, I have traveled to Australia, the UK and now settled in Canada. The Bangladeshi communities I have met on these three continents all have the same problem – grouping and leadership. We lived in the Gold Coast, Australia for about five years. At that time, there were 300 Bangladeshi families there and they were divided into 2 groups – Islamic and cultural.
